I have previously written about my total infatuation with up and coming Russian drum and bass producer Bop, so my July mix of the month should come as no surprise.
Bop whipped up this mix for the guys over at Dogs On Acid as a bit of a promo for his just-released debut album ‘Clear Your Mind‘. I highly recommend picking up a copy of this album, it is incredible music. Even if you are not a drum and bass fan, head over and give it a listen, it is probably not what you would expect.
The mix includes a couple of cuts from the album, as well as a choice selection of (largely unreleased) tunes from other artists writing amazing minimal, moody drum and bass. Perfect music for sitting in your room watching the rain fall out the window, or lying back in a dark room with your headphones on.
Russian producer Bop has recently burst on to the drum and bass scene with some of the most amazing music I have heard in a long time. I have never before felt such an immediate affinity with someones music as I do with Bop’s production. His songs are full of emotion, touching, and genuine, not qualities that are often associated with drum and bass.
But this is not regular drum and bass. In fact I probably shouldn’t even call it drum and bass. You just need to take a listen to his promotional mini-mix that he put together for Hospital Records sister label Med School (conveniently embedded/linked below) to see exactly where I am coming from. This is simply beautiful electronic music.
In his music you can definitely hear the confluence of his influences: minimal dubstep, deep techno, IDM and ambient drum and bass.
His debut single (Song About My Dog/Random Thoughts) has just been released on Med School and the hand-drawn artwork for the 12″ vinyl release is just as phenomenal as the tunes themselves. You can pick it up in the Hospital store on vinyl or even those new fangled MP3s.
Look out for Bop, if he has a whole lot more tunes of this quality up his sleeve I think he has a huge future. I for one am eagerly awaiting his album which is supposedly due out in the not too distant future.
Usually enthusiasm on this scale from me is reserved for Irish super-producer Calibre.
