There isn’t really much I can say about Instra:Mental that hasn’t been said already. Their music is totally amazing.
I have already written about their Autonomic Podcast which they put together with D Bridge (under their Plus Utlra super group alias), but this is a mix of their own recorded live at Reach, a night in Dublin.

I have previously written about my total infatuation with up and coming Russian drum and bass producer Bop, so my July mix of the month should come as no surprise.
Bop whipped up this mix for the guys over at Dogs On Acid as a bit of a promo for his just-released debut album ‘Clear Your Mind‘. I highly recommend picking up a copy of this album, it is incredible music. Even if you are not a drum and bass fan, head over and give it a listen, it is probably not what you would expect.
The mix includes a couple of cuts from the album, as well as a choice selection of (largely unreleased) tunes from other artists writing amazing minimal, moody drum and bass. Perfect music for sitting in your room watching the rain fall out the window, or lying back in a dark room with your headphones on.

Another installment of recession friendly free tunes to get on the old em pee free player. This time round it is all about the cheeky booty/remix business.
Art of Noise – Moments in Love (Caspa Remix)

I have to admit that until I heard this tune I actually had no idea who Art of Noise was. However wonky man of the moment Caspa delivers a beefed up remix of one of the 80′s avant-garde synthpop groups biggest hits (check the video for the original, it is phenomenal). I am really enjoying these vocal dubstep remixes that seem to be pouring out at the moment, good to see that the crew aren’t taking themselves too seriously, and just making tunes that make you want to lose your sh*t on the d floor. Got hold of this a while ago, but thanks to Nivin for bumping it in my memory.

Lupe Fiasco – Paris Tokyo (DJ Clart Remix)

I am quite a fan of Lupe’s brand of infectious pop hop, and this is a nice little drum and bass rework of Paris Tokyo from his 2007 album ‘the Cool’ (courtesy of London based DJ Clart). Nothing like a cheeky little bootleg to get the floor moving. Oh yeah, apparently Lupe has a new album on the way soon.

Michael Jackson – Human Nature (Makoto & Specialist VIP)

I had to think pretty hard about posting this one up. The MJ bandwagon has been jumped on by enough people already, without me getting on it too. Don’t get me wrong, I think it is really sad, and I also think we are unlikely to see a talent like his again for a very long time, if ever. I just don’t want to be one of ‘those’ people. Having said all that, this tune is a cracker. The original remix from Makoto & Specialist came out a couple of years back, and stayed in my record bag for a long time. The VIP was given away as a tribute to the king of pop, and features an extended chunk of the the original track. Sure to see plenty of play at parties big and small around the world over the coming few months, and so it should. RIP MJ.
