I love infographics

This year I have become increasingly enamoured with infographics. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a good infographic must be worth 10,000. I love the way that truly amazing infographic designers can summarize and capture detailed and complex information in something that is both beautiful and easy to understand.

This obsession has got to the point where I now have a section dedicated to infographic blogs in my RSS reader. When I share the ones I really like people often ask where I get them from, so I thought I would share the love. These are the infographic blogs/sites that make the grade:

I also got The Visual Miscellaneum: A Colorful Guide to the World’s Most Consequential Trivia in the post a couple of weeks back. It is a beautiful collection of fascinating infographics put together by David Mccandless (author of Information is Beautiful). It is some of the best bedtime reading I have ever had, I can not recommend it highly enough.

Horoeka (aka my brother Jason Blair)

My brother Jason is (kind of) a hippy that lives in a tiny town in the South Island called Greymouth. For those who don’t know that is almost completely the opposite of me, the city-dwelling (allegedly) metro sexual corporate dude. Despite this we are actually pretty similar in a lot of respects, he just showers less and wears ponchos more. He is also a really talented photographer, so hopefully he will also share some of his work via his blog (come on Jase). He has really only just begun his blogging exploits, no doubt there will be many passionate rants to come.

Sergei Filippov

Sergei is a great photographer who kicks around Auckland taking some killer gig photos (among other things). He is also one of the nicest people who you will ever meet.

Super Duper Street

Ed is truly a man of many talents. He hangs out down in our fair nations capital, and sporadically writes some super quirky, interesting stuff that makes me laugh, a lot. He is also the brains behind the Pasta Man phenomenon – get on board if you are a pasta fan. As if that wasn’t enough he is also a ridiculously talented musician, featuring in bands such as the lovely Ed Zuccollo Trio. Ed is going to go far.

It is about time that I gave props to some of my friends and associates. These guys are totally rocking it right now.

Jess & Emma

Jess and Emma are two super talented young Auckland ladies. They run the hugely popular Liquid Recreation drum and bass parties every month, and over the last 3 years have built a totally sweet party brand. They have just got into this whole bloggy/internet thing, but no doubt their site will evolve into a shrine of awesomeness over the next few months.

Nivin in the Crates

I have yet to actually meet Nivin, the brains behind Nivin in the Crates, which is kinda weird given that we both live in Auckland and run in similar scenes. Despite having not met we have been exchanging ideas and tips in bits and bytes for a while, and I have been reading his blog for a while longer than that. A sweet mix of style, music, and cool shit in general, Nivin knows what he is talking about. He is also building up a small army of contributors to keep the NITC goodness flowing regularly. Smart kid.

Code for Something

I had the pleasure of traveling around the UK on the whirlwind Alternative Albion adventure with Code For Something author Amber. Her blog is an awesome mix of design, culture, music, photography and other cool stuff. She is awesomely talented, and a really nice person to boot. She has also just left her job, and is embarking on some new adventures. Hopefully this means lots of sweet new content. It also means you should click on her ads so that she can afford to eat…
